Transformation in Cubic SpaceDesign 1
The goal of this assignment was to transform a 4" cube so that it expanded into an 8" cubic volume. This had to be completed in five total stages, including the original cube. With no unit for the building material other than its thickness, I sought to create order by establishing a 1" cubic unit for the transformation. From that, I began to subtract, multiply, twist and add to the original cube. I pushed on one corner, projecting an extrusion in the opposite corner. Then, the top half of the cube was turned on its axis. To create the columns that support the original cube halves, 1" cubic units are subtracted from those halves and redistributed. This began by the top half, but in the next step is joined by the bottom half to begin the second column. With each step of the transformation, the same amount of 1" cubes are redistributed, suggesting the continuation of this pattern beyond the steps displayed. |
